WSP's RPM team is one of the most established and exciting teams in Canada. The team consists of environmental technicians, project coordinators, project managers, technical experts, and qualified professionals. We have been providing contaminated site program management services to the worlds most technically focused companies for over 15 years. We consistently have backlog of 9 to 12 months and provide growth opportunities for our high performing team members. We specialize in health and safety, Phase I/II ESAs, risk assessment and remediation. Our team takes on the biggest Canadian projects from coast to coast to coast. The projects range in type, size and complexity, and the successful candidate will be able to utilize the team strengths to manage a large amount of field work efficiently and effectively.
WSP is looking for a Senior Technical Director to join our Remediation Program Management team in Vancouver, British Columbia (though other locations within the province may be considered for the right candidate). Alongside your Technical Director duties, you'll also serve as Team Lead for a portion of our Downstream team in British Columbia.
In this role, which requires an engineering, geoscience, or similar background, you will oversee technical direction for a substantial portfolio-primarily consisting of downstream oil and gas sites-and demonstrate leadership by mentoring junior and intermediate professionals. You should have proven experience achieving closure on complex contaminated sites in British Columbia.
Your Impact
- Lead and inspire a diverse team to deliver high-quality results while embracing a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Conduct career development meetings and year-end discussions.
- Act as first point of contact for team members, facilitating effective communication and collaboration within the team and across departments.
- Encourage a sense of common purpose and direction, setting clear expectations and monitoring performance.
- Review timecards, expenses, and approve vacation requests.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring each team member meets their utilization targets and project deadlines.
- Ensure the short-term backlog of work is scheduled and that workload is appropriately distributed across the team.
- Ensure the team is informed of organizational procedures as it pertains to fieldwork and health and safety.
- Provide leadership and guidance to develop and mentor junior team members.
- Remain involved in project work; maintaining a utilization target.
- Provide senior technical leadership to drive site assessment work to closure, supporting project teams with client communications, scoping work, and providing senior review and sign off of technical deliverables.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, geoscience, or other relevant discipline.
- 10 - 15 years of experience providing Technical Direction of contaminated sites in British Columbia.
- Eligible or immediately eligible to register as a Professional in British Columbia (i.e., P. Ag, P.Chem P.Eng, P.Geo, RPBio).
- Strong and thorough understanding of the British Columbia Contaminated Sites Regulation, and Environmental Management Act; knowledge of the Alberta regulations as asset.
- Ability to apply to become a Contaminated Sites Approved Professional within one to two years of employment with WSP.
- A pleasant and approachable demeanor with WSP colleagues and clients.
- Strong mentoring abilities and a drive to help our junior and intermediate colleagues reach their potential.
- A commitment to helping foster an inclusive team dynamic.
- Good communication skills (listening, speaking, and writing).
- Good problem-solving skills with the initiative and ability to identify alternative solutions.
- Advanced skills (Microsoft application Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and PowerBI and Oracle).

Compensation
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YK: $110,600 - $146,500
MB & ON: $100,900 - $139,000
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $99,900 - $132,700
