JOB DESCRIPTION Duties:

* Assists the Environmental Services or Natural Resources staff in routine portions of field studies and inspections such as setting up and/or servicing test, monitoring and related equipment, taking measurements and samples, performing tests, observing and recording contractor methods/ practices, test sample results and field notes; ensures supplies required for field trips and laboratory work are available and maintained.

* Under direction researches, assembles and assesses biological, physical and socio-economic/ environmental data from a variety of sources; prepares technical reports on assigned topics; reviews field reports or other literature and assembles specific information to assist Environmental Services or Natural Resources staff to prepare reports.

* Liaises with other agencies to discuss and prepare regulatory and other requirements for assigned projects.

* Performs a variety of administrative, laboratory and office duties such as preparing and examining biological samples, compiling data from aerial photos using stereoscopes, planimeters or other laboratory equipment, preparing and processing invoices and/or payment and expense documentation and preparing and entering data from various sources such as field notes, data cards, or recording charts into a computer.

* Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.

Qualifications:

* Completion of a Technologist Certificate in Fish Biology or Environmental Management from an institute of technology. The successful candidate will have approximately 12 months experience in the field as an assistant.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position is affiliated with the Movement of United Professionals union (MoveUP/COPE). http://moveuptogether.ca

* This is a Group 7 Full-Time Temporary (FTT) MOU#15 MoveUP opportunity with the team for approximately 10 months.

* Please note some of the key duties in this role will include the following: - Tracking submission of project environmental documentation. - Reviewing contractor Environmental Protection Plans and extracting information on contractor environmental mitigation commitments. - Entering and updating environmental mitigation commitments into an internal BC Hydro environmental compliance management database. - Linking contractor environmental mitigation commitments to BC Hydro project environmental conditions and permits.

* This position is headquartered in Vancouver however there will be occasional travel required to the Site C Project site in Fort St. John in this role. (circumstances permitting).

* Please note we may be willing to consider having the position headquartered up at Site in Fort St. John and this can be discussed further in the selection process.

* As part of the selection process, applicants may be required to take a written test/assessment.

* A condition of employment in this role is to maintain your drivers license in good standing.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required: * Research and analytical skills. * Good knowledge of provincial and federal fisheries acts or environmental regulations. * Ability to prepare and understand technical reports. * Basic knowledge of safety issues for field work. * Basic knowledge of the operation and effect on fisheries caused by BC Hydro generating facilities. * Good written and interpersonal communication skills. * Good computer spreadsheet and database applications skills. * Ability to operate a boat. * Possess a valid BC driver's licence.

* Depending on the location of this role this position may be assessed as safety sensitive and would therefore require the pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing as a pre-condition to employment.

* Site C will be the third dam and hydroelectric generating station on the Peace River in northeast BC. The project will provide 1,100 megawatts (MW) of capacity and about 5,100 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy each year to the province's integrated electricity system. Project components include an earth fill dam, diversion tunnel, generating station, spillway and associated structures,

an 83-kilometre-long reservoir, re-alignment of six sections of Highway 29, and two 77-kilometre transmission lines along an existing right-of-way connecting Site C to Peace Canyon. It is expected to be complete by 2024.
