JOB DESCRIPTION Duties:

Quality Management (QM) has a challenging opportunity for an Engineering Team Lead to join the team based at BC Hydro's Edmonds office in Burnaby, BC. This position will be to lead a group of engineers, technologists, and consultants who provide quality assurance expertise and services during procurement, manufacturing, fabrication, and installation. The successful candidate would see a tremendous amount of variety in this role as they lead a team responsible for planning and managing quality surveillance strategies for multi-million dollar transmission and generation capital projects. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to set requirements for supplier evaluations and manufacturing surveillance, including test and inspection activities. This is an exciting technical leadership opportunity for someone who has the ability to build a strong team and enhance relationships with other BC Hydro departments and with suppliers. The Engineering Team Lead oversees and ensures that the work of the team meets quality and business requirements.

Specific duties include the following: * Review of work by team members * Provide technical, business, and performance guidance and leadership to the team. Manage relationships within the broader Quality Management group * Collaborate with leadership within and outside the group to execute the Quality Management mandate and improved department effectiveness and efficiency * Manage key relationships with other groups involved in the delivery of projects and supply of materials to BC Hydro, including other departments, consultants, contractors, and suppliers * Ensure that the team complies with company policies and practices * Provide safety leadership * Monitor and produce plans to ensure that qualified internal and external resources are available to meet work plans. Develop staffing strategy and recruit, select, and promote staff * Procure and oversee external resources, including engineering consultants and quality management firms, as required to deliver on work plans

* Create and manage an employee development program in order to maintain required expertise and skills. Allocate resources to various projects within the work program * Establish and manage performance expectations and evaluate staff performance * Keep up-to-date and inform the team of changes to internal policies, practices, standards and other factors that affect quality management strategies * May fill the role of Quality Management Engineer on one or more projects

Qualifications:

* Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C (EGBC) * A degree in Engineering recognized by universities in Canada and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience * Preferred areas of practice are mechanical, civil, and related engineering disciplines relevant to the position * Demonstrated ability to manage a group of eight or more people * Demonstrated strong leadership, technical, problem solving, time management, conflict resolution, listening, and interpersonal skills * Demonstrated ability to be adaptable and flexible * Demonstrated ongoing personal development * Demonstrated understanding of project management, design, and contract management processes * Demonstrated record of using initiative and judgment to develop and implement solutions that address both business and technical needs * Adept at applying practical knowledge in the analysis and resolution of problems * Proficiency with MS Office including MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint * Excellent technical writing and communication skills in addition to demonstrated experience preparing and delivering oral presentations.

The following are considered assets: * A knowledge of quality assurance tools and methods * Experience developing and managing supplier surveillance strategies * Experience with quality processes and practices relating to equipment manufacturing * Hydroelectric, substation, and/or transmission line structure and related equipment fabrication and test experience * Hydroelectric, transmission lines, and/or substation utility experience * Site construction management experience * Experience with public procurement processes * Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g. SAP, Passport)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION * Required to occasionally travel to BC Hydro facilities and supplier locations. * A condition of employment for this role is that you maintain your Driver's License (Class 5) in good standing. * A valid passport is also required as there may be some international travel. * Please submit a cover letter as part of your application.
