Mackie is seeking an experienced Embedded Systems Engineer or Lead Embedded Systems Engineer to join the product development team. This person is responsible for designing and architecting new hardware and firmware systems for Mackie loudspeakers, researching new DSP and control technologies, and design of integrated systems.  An ideal candidate has excellent C/C++ design and coding skills, experience in an embedded Linux environment and is comfortable working in a collaborative engineering team.  Depending on the level of experience, this role may work on general or advanced product designs and may contribute to the research and development of new technologies that will be used in future products.  A strong understanding of hardware and firmware design practices is required.


  • Design and develop advanced professional loudspeaker products with a focus on hardware and firmware system integration.
  • Develop new, or modify existing electrical design of advanced multi-channel DSP and/or embedded controller platforms.
  • Firmware development for embedded controllers & DSP in C/C+.
  • Perform firmware and system level debugging and testing to ensure proper feature and system performance.
  • Perform hardware bring up, testing and certification of prototype sub-systems or complete loudspeaker systems.
  • Integrate 3rd party electrical devices into system design such as amplifier and power supply modules.
  • Adapt and implement 3rd party software such as peripheral drivers into the design
  • Collaborate with software team for system integration of software and firmware


  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Exhibits a strong sense of ownership, attention to detail and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively to solve problems and resolve issues
  • Work with QA on developing testing processes, frameworks, and automation strategies
  • Able to read component datasheets and board schematics.
  • Other duties as assigned.


The Embedded Systems Engineer reports to the Acoustic Team Lead. The Embedded Systems Engineer responsibilities include making design-related decisions with some oversight by senior engineers and the Team Lead, as well as creativity in design and accountability for meeting BOM budget goals and meeting product performance requirements.

This role will interact with many other areas of the organization across different geographies and cultures. Ability to adapt to different work environments, philosophies and personalities while achieving results is critical.  External contact with audio consultants, vendors, contractors, and customers is encouraged.


  • Experience with embedded debugging tools (oscilloscope, emulators/debuggers, logic analyzers, etc.)
  • Knowledge of modern source code management and task management tools
  • Knowledge of software development and release processes


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent field.  Master’s degree preferred for the lead role.
  • 3 years of industry experience minimum and 5+ years’ experience for the lead role.
  • Extensive integrated system design experience required for the lead role.


  • Occasional domestic and international travel, including to manufacturing sites in Asia.
  • Occasional exposure to high-levels of music and/or other audio signals for which hearing protection may be required.
