Electrical Engineer (Contract)

Ballard has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer (Intermediate to Senior) to join the Systems Engineering Team for a 6 month contract with a potential 3 month extension. The successful candidate will work well with existing engineering staff, is capable of independent work, and will contribute to the development of Ballard's fuel cell system products.

Responsibilities:

• Perform design and verification of electrical systems for Stationary Fuel Cell Generators
• Design of HV and LV Circuits compliant with relevant standards
• Revision of existing designs to comply with the requirements of alternate regions and jurisdictions
• Electrical Panel Layout
• Select and source electrical components in compliance with requirements
• Develop component design requirements from system requirements
• Develop documentation to support customer integration
• Verify designs through analysis and testing
• Troubleshooting of electrical components and systems

Requirements:

• Must have a technical diploma or engineering degree from an Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics program
• Must have at least 5 years' experience in an electrical engineering field
• Experience with industrial electrical design
• Experience with European and North American Electrical Codes
• Familiar with Hazardous Area Requirements as defined by ATEX and NFPA
• Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and their characteristics, applications and limitations
• Experience with selecting circuit protection including motor protective devices
• Ability to read Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
• Troubleshooting skills with DMM and oscilloscope
• Experience with panel design

Additional Consideration:

• Knowledge of fuel cell technology
• Experience with PLCs, Alarm Lists, and creation of I/O drawings
• Experience with EPlan, AutoCAD or similar drafting software
• Experience with instrumentation including pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices
• Experience with electrical systems for generation and grid-tie applications
• Familiarity with the IEC Safety of Machinery Directives
