Through the Greater Victoria Public Library’s programs, collections, and services, we inspire our Library members to discover new ideas and information that will enlarge their world. Led by our Board of Directors and Executive team, GVPL provides services at 12 Library branches, online, and throughout the community to 380,000 residents in 10 municipalities in the Capital Regional District.
GVPL is recognized as a leader in the Library community. In 2019, GVPL won the American Library Association’s prestigious John Cotton Dana Award celebrating outstanding public relations campaigns. Staff at all levels are regularly sought out to showcase the work of the Library locally, nationally, and internationally.
Reporting to the CEO, the Director, Systems Integration, Resource Management and IT (Director) provides vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology solutions and initiatives that improve cost effectiveness, service quality, and access to services. The Director is responsible for the leadership, development, and oversight of strategy and service delivery for three areas: Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT), Resource Management, and Data Security. The Director advises the CEO and the senior leadership team on IM/IT risk and resource management matters and identifies opportunities for the integration of processes to improve library service delivery. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director contributes to identifying, developing, and implementing strategic initiatives, policies, plans, collections, and programs necessary for the successful operation of the library. Additionally, the Director, with the CEO, will jointly support the responsibilities of the Privacy Officer.
The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with the ability to lead, develop, and implement information management, information technology, and resource management policies, programs, and projects in a complex, multi-partner systems environment. They will have experience with systems design and development as well as in the implementation, major upgrade, and replacement of integrated systems and services. The Director will possess a nurturing and supportive leadership approach and display the ability to work collaboratively to reach new goals that serve the needs of both internal and external customers. They will have a demonstratable reputation as a skillful communicator, an outstanding team leader, and a true talent manager. Working closely with the senior leadership team, the Director will enable the organization to continuously leverage technology to find efficiencies and improvements.
