POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director, IT facilitates the development of the organization’s IT/IS strategy and is accountable for planning and implementing the technology roadmap to deliver an effective integrated enterprise approach. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Working closely with Senior Management to develop and implement the overall IT strategy and related objectives for the organization.
  • Developing an Information Systems roadmap with related deliverables; ensuring effective and efficient implementation of IS/IT processes across the organization.
  • Overseeing the technological infrastructure for the organization; ensuring optimal performance and implementation of best practices.
  • Developing IT policies and procedures (specifically related to IT infrastructure, security, and disaster recovery) and implementing best practice across the companies.
  • Developing and implementing the organization’s Business Continuity Plan as it pertains to IT; ensuring IT Disaster Recovery Planning supports and complements requirements.
  • Providing management level oversight on all IT infrastructure evaluations with vendors and service providers to ensure efficient and cost-effective acquisition of technology purchases; including, providing final approval on service agreements and warranties.
  • Researching, designing, and implementing appropriate technological solutions to support and improve corporate communications, access to information, and end-user productivity.
  • Conducting capacity planning for network bandwidth, storage requirements, messaging, Web sites, and other applications.
  • Overseeing and coordinating IT related project initiatives; including, scope development in alignment with business requirements, provision of functional deliverables, schedule and milestone planning, project execution and post mortems/lessons learned.
  • Developing and managing a budget for technology, IT services, and personnel.
  • Analyzing complex business needs presented by business units and recommending technical solutions.
  • Creating status reports and presenting findings to senior management on an as required basis.
  • Participating in the company’s acquisition due diligence process; identifying acquisition IT assets and establishing an appropriate integration approach.
  • Providing direct supervision to the IT Manager as well as overall mentoring and oversight for the IT department.
  • Monitoring new or emerging trends and technologies; presenting business case(s) for implementation to senior management, as and when required.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • 15+ years of Information Technology experience with 5+ years in a Senior IT Management role.
  • Post-Secondary Degree in an IT related field as well as relevant certifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT infrastructure systems and security as well as demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical IT/IS related issues.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing IT/IS strategy as well as related systems, processes and controls in rapidly changing organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve in a leadership capacity and effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization, including translating high-level, complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage and maintain private and confidential information with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Demonstrated capacity for forming and advancing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel.
  • Strong problem solving and project management skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experienced innovative thinker with proven results in a fast-paced environment.
