Using leading-edge technology, you'll help connect British Columbians to healthy and safe workplaces - providing support for injury prevention programs, rehabilitation services, workplace insurance, and strong health and safety cultures.

Are you a skilled DBA with the ability to implement and manage DB2, SQL, and other databases? You'll assist the manager of Database Services to ensure the integrity of databases, lead and coordinate the work of project teams, and resolve complex technical database problems encountered by DBAs and developers.

Your role will be instrumental on a team that ensures data is available and secure for users across our organization - presenting the opportunity to advance your skills with exposure to supporting various mission applications like our Claims Management System and involvement in performance tuning of our mission critical applications.

What you'll do

As a database administrator III you will:
  • Participate in and contribute to the operational and tactical plans for database administration
  • Coordinate and lead teams for large projects which could involve conversions, data design and database implementation
  • Develop and implement a variety of quality assurance guardrails and procedures relating to database design, performance tuning, automation and scripting and ensure adherence to these procedures are established within Database Services
  • Resolve complex technical database problems faced by database administrators or software developers
  • Design and maintain the test DB environments for application development
  • Develop requirements for the procurement of vendor supplied support tools for database system management.
  • Participate in the installation, configuration and support for Database Management system tools
  • Participate and provide direction on the Disaster Recovery plan, documentation and execution to ensure Disaster recovery scripts are kept up to date with changes that occur throughout the year
  • Develop processes for data replication method and synchronization across the enterprise
  • Respond to database system monitoring alerts and exceptions and provide database system problem recovery and resolution
  • Provide guidance on automation opportunities as well as scripting standards and practices

  • Critically think through complex problems, often under pressure, and make decisions that may impact multiple levels of the business, projects or programs.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call procedures and support on a rotational basis

Your experience and educational background:
  • A degree in Computer Science or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
  • A minimum of nine years of experience working with Relational Database management systems including DB2 and/or SQL Server
  • Knowledge of Agile and Scrum methodologies
