The Digital Technology Supercluster is a collection of organizations who collaborate to develop world leading technologies that will power the digital transformation of business and society while delivering economic growth across Canada. Based in Vancouver, the Digital Technology Supercluster is one of five proposals awarded funding from the Government of Canada’s Innovation Supercluster Initiative in February 2018. 

Supercluster members include startups, researchers, Canadian national companies, universities and world-leading companies. Working together, Supercluster members propose projects that will produce products and platforms that will solve some of the biggest issues facing industries today. Supercluster projects are governed by a non-profit organization that is responsible for making sure that projects deliver promised outcomes and funding from industry and taxpayers in well spent. 

We are building a team to lead the Supercluster’s efforts. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a bold new initiative that will drive major economic, social and industrial benefits for the country. 

What is a Supercluster?

A supercluster is an innovation hotbed that is home to strong industrial clusters, linked through their shared reliance on specialized inputs, including technologies, talent and infrastructure. Superclusters offer strong and numerous linkages across sectors, and between private companies, public entities, post-secondary institutions, and research and government partners. Superclusters create a strong brand and competitive advantage that translates into global recognition and impact, the ability to attract talent and investment across highly innovative industries, and exceptional performance, including an outsize impact on job creation and GDP.

Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster is a proud member of a national network of five Canadian, industry-led innovation superclusters. Over the next five years, the federal government has committed to investing up to 950 million dollars in its five superclusters to drive major economic, social and industrial benefits for the country.

Why Digital Technology?

More data has been created in the last two years than in the entirety of human history, but less than 0.5% of this data has ever been analyzed. Unlocking the potential of data will establish Canada as a global leader in digital technology in the era of the intelligent enterprise. The Digital Technology Supercluster will leverage virtual mixed/augmented reality, data analytics and quantum computing to create scalable, applicable solutions that address key industry problems and advance economic opportunities for Canadians by applying data in new and innovative ways.

Expected Economic Opportunities

The Digital Technology Supercluster will positively impact the Canadian economy from coast to coast to coast. Over a ten-year period, we anticipate that our efforts will generate more than $1.4 billion to fund over 100 collaborative projects involving more than 1,000 organizations, more than $5 billion in GDP impact, 13,500 new jobs for Canadians over 10 years, and opportunities for economic reconciliation with BC’s Indigenous peoples.

Communications & Events Specialist

 We are looking for an energetic, digital-savvy Communications & Events Specialist to manage our external and internal communications, marketing content, and events. You will spread the word about the Digital Technology Supercluster to the world, promote a positive public image and foster regular communication, events and collaboration between Supercluster members and stakeholders. This position will require working with the Membership team and the government relations and public affairs team.

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Support the Member and Stakeholder engagement goals of the organization
  • Develop and execute an effective digitally powered corporate communication strategy with an emphasis on member and community engagement.
  • Develop a comprehensive content strategy for all communication vehicles, including social media, to support the communication plan
  • Work across the organization to develop marketing and communication assets that will support the organization’s visibility to key stakeholders
  • Manage internal and external communications, including stakeholder presentations, email communications, member newsletters, event invitations, etc.
  • Develop compelling and engaging stories about the mission and projects of the Digital Technology Supercluster, which will inspire strong support and additional collaboration within the local community
  • Coordinate and develop materials related to media and showcase events content (e.g. press releases) for mass media or company website.
  • Design, organize, promote and run a variety of member events, forums, workshops and other networking opportunities.
  • Liaise with media and handle requests for interviews, statements etc.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership in the use and application of the best available digital tools for communication, marketing and community engagement
  • Demonstrated experience in web design, graphic design, UX and UI .
  • 4+ years of marketing communications and events experience in a corporate environment, preferably within the technology sector - you have had full accountability for communications in a fast-paced, multifaceted organization.
  • Phenomenal communication, copywriting, and editing skills - you have proficient command of the English Language and you are not afraid to use it in creative ways.
  • Extensive experience creating marketing collateral and presentations - you can design interesting, engaging and relevant material that will capture an audience and draw their interest.
  • Strong project manager with outstanding organization and time management skills - you can juggle multiple projects, prioritize them, and you never miss a deadline.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision - you are given an end goal and enjoy figuring out the best path to get there.
  • A good eye for visual content - you don't need to code, but you can look at a brochure or website and know what works and what doesn't.
  • Positive, energetic attitude - you are a go-getter who consistently gets the job done and are proud of the work you do.
  • Formal education in public relations, communications or relevant field is an asset.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
