Job Summary
The Team
The Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services (YFPS) in Kelowna is a dedicated multidisciplinary team providing specialized mental health care to young people involved in the justice system. You'll work alongside psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and administrative staff in a collaborative and supportive environment. This established team brings diverse expertise together to make a meaningful impact on the lives of youth, offering compassionate care and intervention when it's needed most
The Role
As a Community Nurse with YFPS you play a vital role in supporting youth involved in the justice system by providing compassionate, court-mandated mental health care. You assess and treat young people who require specialized services under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and other legislation, including those found unfit to stand trial or not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder (NCRMD) under the Criminal Code of Canada. Your work helps create pathways to recovery and stability, offering youth the opportunity to heal, build resilience, and reintegrate into their communities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized university, and licensed to practice and registered under the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Applicants with equivalent combination of nursing diploma and related nursing experiences and licensed to practice nursing in BC may be considered.
- NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in psychiatric nursing.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Three (3) or more years experience in psychiatric nursing.
- Two (2) or more years experience working with adolescents in a forensic or community mental health setting.
- Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e., from another Canadian Province).
