Job Description

MDA Geospatial Services Inc. (GSI) is seeking a Business Development Manager - Commercial Market, for the Richmond office to lead a variety of business development initiatives in the emerging markets of data analytics and geospatial big data. With a goal of growing GSI&rsquo s revenue from satellite-based products and services, the Business Development Manager will lead activities to develop and drive GSI&rsquo s geospatial platform go to market strategy and capability development.

Primary Activities

The Business Development Manager is responsible for all strategy, capture and proposal activities leading to contract award. In this leadership role, the Business Development Manager will be expected to analyze and understand the market and the Customer' s needs (technical and non-technical), the potential solutions, the competition, all other aspects and context of the opportunity. Based on the analysis, he/she will be expected to develop and implement a winning strategy and pursuit plan. He/she is also expected to form and manage competitive pursuit teams including members from both technical (engineering experts) and non-technical disciplines (contracts, finance, project management, legal, etc.). The Business Development Manager should coordinate all activities of the team members to maximize MDA&rsquo s probability of winning.

The Business Development Manager will be expected to develop new opportunities in both international and domestic markets, work both externally with Customers, partners and subcontractors, and internally with multiple business units and senior management as required to set, implement and approve the pursuit plan. In addition to managing pursuits, the Business Development Manager will also be responsible for negotiating contracts, and defining and executing various long-term strategic initiatives that are fundamental to the growth of the Geospatial Services business unit.

Mandatory attributes
  • A university degree in Engineering or Science or other relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Business development experience ideally working in one or more high technology organizations.
  • Reputation as a winner - demonstrated expertise and success in leading pursuits and proposals.
  • Experience with different acquisition approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate.
  • Demonstrated broad, complex strategic thinking capability.
  • Proven ability to assess competition and other critical factors affecting a pursuit.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of financial business models.
  • Demonstrated ability to be customer focused.
  • Proven ability to analyze information and provide solution to diverse problems.

Desirable attributes
  • Experience working with cloud processing environments
  • Experience and familiarity with satellite remote sensing systems and associated ground segments.
  • Experience and familiarity with satellite data applications.
  • Experience writing proposals for systems projects.

Comments/Special Considerations:

The candidate must have the ability to obtain Canadian Secret clearance.

International travel to meet existing and prospective customers to understand their remote sensing requirements and to promote our offerings will be required.
