Aquatic Programmer/Lifeguard (Leadership Role)

As a Lifeguard with VCH you will:

• Monitor and organize equipment, plan, implement and evaluate aquatic programs, adjust the aquatic schedule and assess clients’/residents’ needs for successful participation.
• Monitor the general operation and cleanliness of the pool facility, record and report relevant observations of client’s/resident’s progress and behaviour, provide supervision, train volunteers and presents and/or participate in program/practice meetings and in services.

Education & Experience

• Graduation from a recognized post secondary recreational program plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• National Lifeguard Pool Option Certificate.
• CPR-C Basic Rescuer Certificate, Standard First Aid Certificate or equivalent.
• Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate or equivalent.
• Experience as an Aquafit Instructor is an asset.

Knowledge & Abilities

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to teach.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.  Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per the current Public Health Orders, as of October 5, 2023, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most-recent, updated COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
