The Information Services Division are technology leaders, planning and delivering successful solutions with information management and information technology (IM/IT) services to both the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction and the Ministry of Children and Family Development. The division also provides IM/IT resource planning, decision-making, project and issues management, security and privacy functions, and desktop support.

The User Experience Researcher develops and delivers research studies to inform and guide the development of scalable digital products, ensuring the product meets user and stakeholder needs. Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a design discipline, social sciences, humanities, or a related field and two (2) years of related experience, OR
  • Diploma in a design discipline, social sciences, humanities, or a related field and three (3) years related experience, OR
  • Certificate or coursework in a design discipline, social sciences, humanities, or a related field and four (4) years related experience, OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related experience includes ALL of the following:
  • Experience in knowledge management and capture of user insights and technical documentation for a large-scale IM/IT project.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment with UX or service designers, and developers to create iteratively and improve digital products and services.
  • Experience within a product-focused, research, and digital environment.
  • Experiencein production of multi-media assets (e.g. web content, tools, videos, diagrams, scripts, articles, etc.).
  • Experience providing training in knowledge management practices and tools to less experienced team members, UX practitioners, or senior leadership.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
  • Experience in developing communications to senior leadership and government organizations.
  • Experience working in the Social Sector.
  • Experiencedesigning and executing research plans using leading UX and service design practices (e.g. co-design, usability testing, in-situ interviews, observation, data analysis, comparative analysis, etc.), determining the most effective methods at each stage of the work.

About this Position:
There is currently a temporary opportunity available until October 31, 2025.
The temporary opportunity may be extended OR a permanent appointment may result from the temporary appointment.
Temporary postings are not limited to the geographic area. Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply.
This position can be based in any Social Development & Poverty Reduction office locations listed above. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to five (5) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Depending on the successful candidate's location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
