Job Description

6-month contract Capacity Engineer role with a global enterprise organization working within their rapidly growing engineering team.

What & Why:
As a result of investment in technology our global enterprise organization is looking to add a Capacity Engineer to their engineering team. You are someone who can run tests and also has solid development skills for the in-house tooling they are developing.  As a Capacity Engineer, you will work closely with engineering teams and product owners to provide capacity testing services. Your goal is to ensure the e-commerce platform is capable of supporting peak traffic loads without a degradation in performance. Your recommendations will be focused on improvement and optimization of the code base, validation of software releases, and infrastructure capacity planning. You will also work with tools teams to assist in the development of our internal platform. You are experienced in cloud platforms, creating capacity tests, establishing best practices, generating reports based on the results of the tests and analyzing the results. You will work with engineering teams to create KPIs, establish a test plan, automate the test, and record results. They are located close to rapid transit in newly renovated offices in downtown Vancouver and have a hybrid work environment with 3 days a week in office.

You:
You will bring the following education, skills and experience to the role:
  • Active development in 2 languages a must, Python, plus Java or Javascript
  • Working knowledge of Unix command line a must (ssh, scp, vi/nano, grep, awk, sed), Linux shell script development
  • Expert understanding of web technologies - HTTPS, headers, cookies, JSON, GraphQL, sessions, CDN, firewalls
  • AWS/Azure IaC creating IAM policies/roles, VPC subnets/routes, ECS tasks, EC2/User Data, Quotas
  • Development with containers, Python development, DockerFile creation
  • Agile developer working with Jira, Git, Peer Review, and CI/CD
  • Solid communicator, adept at scope planning, communicates risks early, asks for help when stuck!
